… into the new decade with a view of Godrevy lighthouse taken a couple of months ago when ChillB and I had a few days down in Cornwall .
Whatever the weather let’s go to Godrevy has become a thing . No matter how many times we’ve photographed this lighthouse in front of a pink tinged dawn sky or lack of … billowing moody clouds or lack of … a pounding aqua-streaked surf or lack of , it never fails to make an impression .
Others have found inspiration from Virginia Wolf
Much fun had as always and when the weather didn’t play nicely we clocked up a few miles in what ChillB called *pastygate* Lol … I’m sure one of us will tell all another time π
I have to say the ocean calls and speaks to me in more ways than any other kind of photography … so thought that a photo of this early morning outing would be the best way to make new beginnings restarting my blog .
Life has changed a little since I left WP and somehow blogging slid away with much to with having a bit -no let’s be honest- a big block about joining in once more . But hey .. nothing ventured nothing gained .
We’ve visited a few different places and rediscovered old favourites so I’ve a mass of images sitting on hard disks to share . I guess I’ve made progress with my photography from the early days but have found it harder to make that extra effort in making it out for dawn shoots that for the most part yield the pictures I really want . In some ways of course it’s the photographers lot to put on an early alarm .. drive somewhere and find disappointingly the sky that may have been promising has fizzled out . Grrr π
It’s been so long since I tackled making something of RAW images so again that is a bit of a mountain to climb .. but seeing the tools are right here sitting idle on my desktop I’m ready to spend some time re learning it all .
Watercolour sketching and art is happening more frequently round the table @No4. New techniques materials and colours unfold varying levels of excitement – hmm more an Eeek moment I would say – when making those first swashes across a sheet of blank pristine paper …
I’ve still visions of sitting on the cliff of the Cornish coast capturing that elemental energy of the sea and changing mood of the sky . Maybe 2020 will bring that opportunity .
Meanwhile … posts in the immediate future I thought to get me moving forward I’d work through an A-Z medley of images sketches and such like .. it might be literal or an abstract or an emotion each time . I’ll have to think about it a little … plus whether this particular theme is the one for me .
And on that note …
Happy new year if it’s not too late to send out those wishes x
Beautiful post Poppy. Lovely to see you back π

Happiness is a Poppypost…your writing is vibrant and full of fresh air. No, there is no excuse, editing from RAW files is so much fun, the possibilities so endless. Every time I learn something new I have to go try it over and over, so I hope you have that experience too. Things do happen fast at the shoreline – changing light, waves crashing, tides rising or falling, it’s a lot to keep track of, especially if you want to make a technically acceptable image. Yeesh! π But you did it, that’s a beauty at the top, nicely balanced in every way.
And the watercolors – you know how they excite me! π Are you implying that when you took this photo with your phone, the watercolors you made looked more vibrant than in “real life?” Whatever the case, they are really nice. I’m especially drawn to that windswept tree on the far left, and other iterations of it. I like seeing the sketchbook, and seeing your experiments in general. A to Z or whatever framework you use, I look forward to more. Don’t expect perfection, OK? This posting business does take time, I’m with you on that one!! I like this theme, it seems to give you space to play in. Like I said, looking forward to whatever comes next, whenever. π
Glad you and Chill got together again, always sounds like a wonderful time.

Huge, big thank you happy *smiles Lynn ! You’re so right , repetition is key with trying out editing and processing RAW files , but so often I go down the proverbial rabbit hole with it all, get lost and in a mither as to which variation of an image I think is ‘right’ in my mind . Is it this one .. or this .. or how about ..
I do begin with a simple workflow, but then I probably make it difficult for myself , fun and infuriating Lol however now I have more of a reason to crack on with it .
As to the watercolours taken on my phone ,yes they do seem more vibrant and have punch , I’ve been told it’s because of the back lit screen . Before my phone I used to use my camera – must look into it . I’ll take your very good advice and thoughts about it all Lynn and take my time , thanks once again for your encouragement x
ChillB and I have had some great fun trips and visits out since he moved much nearer but a jolly to Cornwall is always special π

There’s more than one “right.” π It can be nice to keep several variations, but yes, it’s hard to decide which version you prefer sometimes. Of course, I’m jealous of you & Adrian. I hope all is well with him. I had a great time last April traveling to Europe and meeting FOUR blogging friends – 1 in the Netherlands, 3 in Germany. I hope you all will get out again soon, but it sounds like just meeting for tea/coffee/whatever is possible now, too. Nice!

Oh Lynn … how remiss of me, you can see I’m not all up together with *how to blog again Lol I just wandered round settings and found this and a couple of other comments tsk to me .
Dithery is me on the variations but if I keep on I’ll get there π
Adrian is doing well Lynn. I’ll let him know you’ve asked after him for sure π We get out together for photography as and when, and have great times all together whether that is a mean game of scrabble, a movie night here followed by supper or planning future accessible photo opportunities . It really has been fantastic to end up with a very special friend made through our blogs now living close by to me .. us .
A 4 blogging friends meet up .. whoo .. why am I not surprised, you’re so welcoming and your blog is so inspiring, take a closer look at the world infront of you and savour nature’s bounty is the message that comes through . Wonderful . Thank you Lynn x

Ah, the atmosphere! Those wild oceans have such a pull don’t they, especially at one or other end of the day. Wonderful colours. You have been very productive with your painting and drawing Poppy, it is so good to see! I love the glimpse of your sketchbook in the bottom corner. And pastygate does sound intriguing … nothing like a real Cornish pasty in Cornwall of course …! Just lovely to see you here again – I hope there will be many more!

Thanks very much Anna , I’m so happy you caught some of that atmosphere π
When I went through the pile of paper and experiments I was myself quite surprised at the quantity … I tend to paint and put aside especially as I work at the dining room table . The sketchbook is very handy for playing with ideas and watercolour ‘notes’ and certainly not as daunting as that blank page . It made me smile seeing your Fungi post, having attempted the Fly Agaric after my woodland walk back in the Autumn.
I think I’ve needed a certain amount push and a bit more oomph to get on with everything, the beginning of 2020 feels right .
Thanks once again Anna .. lovely encouragement as always !

It is surprising how the artwork mounts up without you realising. It is good to do an audit like this every now and then! Then you realise you have been more involved that you thought …

Swoosh and you are back Poppy, a lovely surprise made my morning, adore the art work, love the loose flowing effect of the tree. Is it pen and wash or have you got a lovely fine line brush. What a coincidence you and Jude with the same lighthouse featured. Looking forward to seeing more… thanking jo for the link in Judeβs post

Hello Pauline, you made me smile and thank you … I think it’ll be good for me to be a little more productive and creative in 2020 .
Well, that’s the plan π
The trees are painted with a combination of watercolours inks and pencils Pauline, branches and twigs were made with a fine rigger brush but also the end of my paintbrush to make scratchy markings drawing the paint across the paper . The windswept wild hawthorn trees holding tight along walls and lanes in Cornwall were my inspiration . A lovely book by artist Ann Blockley helped a great deal with loosening up techniques and ideas … it’s easy to become obsessed with a theme , and buying new materials Lol

Well, blow me down! Look who I’ve found in my Reader π π
I thought at first that this was an entry for Jude’s new photo challenge. She has a very different but equally beguiling shot of Godrevy, but it’s on her doorstep, more or less. Of your paintings I like top left best, and I think this theme works well. Wishing you an equally happy, healthy and fulfilled year π
